End of the evening TV study finds Jay Leno jokes are red, Jon Stewart blue

JonstewartRESIZEDThis might not come as a new late-night TV junkies, but as Jon Stewart prepares for his Saturday rally in Washington, a new study adds to evidence that the partisan divide America split extends to the jokes told by hosts.

The NBC Jay Leno and Jimmy Fallon took scans Democrats or Liberals two-thirds of the time, while Stewart of Comedy Central and David Letterman CBS are three-quarters of their barbs to conservatives, according to the Center for media and public affairs, a non-profit organization research affiliated with George Mason University.

From January 1 through labor day, four combined comic said 1,625 jokes on partisan targets, the study revealed. The most frequent target was President Obama (309), followed by Sarah Palin (137), George w. Bush (132) and Joe Biden (94).

Palin, who has publicly tangled with Letterman in the past, could be justified in feeling some resentment towards the comic strip.Letterman spoke 58 jokes the former Governor of Alaska, far more than any comic.
