As a soon-to-be-independent station, KCET-TV Channel 28?is taking its first steps to tighten its bonds with the community.
The longtime PBS station, which under the leadership of President and Chief Executive Al Jerome is leaving the network come Jan. 1, has hired Zach Behrens of LAist.com to launch a new blogging operation.
Behrens will "be responsible for creating community-based content and building online engagement for a new initiative that includes new KCET blogs," according to a news release from the station.
"Zach's impressive background in building community engagement and developing compelling content for local audiences makes him a perfect match for KCET as we set out to redefine public media in the 21st century," said Mary Mazur, KCET's executive vice president and chief content officer.
Behrens' resume included previous marketing and communications stints with MTV and Nike.
